First, thank you for thinking I'm a decent person! Second, it's just the world we live in now. It's important for nonfiction writers to put their thoughts and ideas out there and to contribute to the conversation. (Fiction writers, on the other hand, can opt out.) Twitter is the new town square.

Ben how has it happened that the internet itself was the new town square but now the new town square is only comprised of Twitter a small small subset of the internet. More of a mob than a town square.

Agreed, it has become a safety hazard, you almost need a hazmat suit just to read tweets these days.

And as the saying goes, Never wrestle with a pig in the mud, you both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.
