Hi Ben! I have noticed that the "new gender ideology" is the only subject you write or tweet about. Even your review of "And Just Like That" wound up being a treatise on the "new gender ideology." As a fan of your writing style, I am curious to hear your thoughts on other subjects, other ideas, other eras. However, I get the sense that you are only interested in delivering the same message again and again. Why?

I hasten to add that I have monomaniacal tendencies myself; one thing that helps, I've noticed, is reading fiction and getting out of my head a little. Have you ever read the novels of Alan Hollinghurst or Edmund White or Virginia Woolf? You might enjoy them.

Regards,

Cindy

Hello Ben,

I really enjoyed your April 22 article and interview with James. I'll be sharing it onwards.

My tale is not as dramatic as your incredible story. I grew up in a peculiar religious household (Islamic sect) - although looking back I realise all the scary things I managed to dodge. I think I can empathise. Additionally a journey like that does help us sense/ recognise zealot like behaviour in others.

I confess that I have only recently become aware of gender ideology. My concern was first flickered through the creep of pronouns but then I began to notice 'the cancellation' of academics and students for the temerity to question the LGBTQ mantra.

My reading has accelerated since January this year.

The erosion of critical thinking is the most damaging, the inability for people to have a reasoned discussion but moreover review evidence and data without confirmation bias is worrying.

I would describe myself as left leaning but the far left have been the least able to hold complex ideas or recognise what's at stake. Their complete inability to see the conflict of safeguarding other groups with protected characteristics and systematic gay erasure. I'll be candid many of my gay friends do not see this threat which I find really worrying.

The medicalised commodification associated with gender identity has also troubled me deeply, and as clinical pharmacist the dishonesty about the impacts of puberty blockers in children. The effects are so dreadful I can barely read the case reports. I am not sure how we are getting away with this.

I could say more but I mainly want to thank you for you dedication to exploring these complex ideas and that you write beautifully.

Hello, sorry nothing new that isn't already out there and I know you are already familiar with this stuff. So I can't imagine anything I say adding any value but I will tell you what I have been up to.

I am still confused by this whole business and am sticking to evidence-based analysis.

I have been focusing on the Swedish HTA report looking at its SR and methodology. Given it is a HTA document its recommendations are significant at least. NICE (UK HTA) should in theory look at this as should the EMA organisations.

I recently discovered google translate will do a whole document! OMG. Although the literature search is in English Appendix 1 , as are the articles rejected for bias Appendix 2 and the accepted articles Appendix 3.

SBU have their own internal framework for assessing bias. I cannot see it on the website.

The SBU literature search is really useful.

For me studies that are funded ( without conflict of interest) in the name of child health and not LGBTQ+ biased organisations are important. Also I tend to be wary of open access documents as they are funded - the source of funding is important to check I think.

You know all this though...I am still a bit disorientated, there is bad peer reviewed research & of course inherent bias but I have never see religion penetrate medical research to this extent before.

My regular job has me stressed enough and now I'm finding all this stuff out.

The comparison of the Swedes advice to WPATH is stark don't you think?

Of course we have had the interim Cass report which is the investigation into UKs leading GID clinic which you would think would allow a justified pause for further deliberation on things like the gender reform act in Scotland. I am truly baffled.

Have only recently learned the terms: TERF and CIS, late to the party but I'm getting there.
